Driver Profile - Jason Greatrex

Jason started racing in 1990 racing at local karting tracks before graduating to the national kart scene in 1991 achieving great success.

In 1995 at the age of 22 Jason decided that the time had come to move up to Saloon car racing.

To this end the roadgoing MK II Escort was pressed into service and Jason was a regular competitor at sprint car meetings with the ever developing MKII.

Jason often found himself competing against cars that were much quicker than his, but as far as he was concerned that was not a bad thing. The learning curve was steep, but Jason accepted the challenge with relish.

He developed into a very gifted and quick driver who was not afraid to take on allcomers.

Seasons 2000 to 2006 saw Jason competing in the Fiat Racing Challenge.

He quickly became a front runner and after winning the rookie championship in his first season followed that up with his first championship win in 2002.

Further championship wins in 2004-2005 and 2006 saw him achieve a hat trick. Something that had never been achieved before in the championships 15 year history.

The 2007 season saw Jason embark on his toughest challenge to date.

The BMW Mini Cooper Challenge is a televised series that receives a massive amount of air time and as such benefits both the teams and Jasons sponsors enormously.

As Jason said " I'd been extremely competitive in Fiats and will do everything it takes to maintain and carry that forward into the BMW Mini Cooper Challenge".

Jasons first season in the BMW Mini Challenge saw him finish a very creditable second with some excellent results including a pair of lights to flag wins at his home circuit of Pembrey in South Wales.

For the 2008/9 seasons Jason again drove in the Fiat Racing Challenge.

The car of choice was the Fiat Punto HGT 1800 16v Twin Cam and it was a real challenge for both driver and team as Redline would be the first team to debut the car.

A late start to the 2008 season was not ideal given that Jason was forced to miss the first 3 meetings.

The car was a winner straight away and remained so all season.

Jason took 6 wins from 7 starts and took a very creditable second in the championship.

The 2009 season was a continuation of 2008 in that Jason took 8 wins from 11 starts and was able to tie up the championship with 2 races to go.

Not having to attend the last meeting of the season was very fortunate as he was able to accept the offer from Tanker Rental International to partner Oli Mortimer in the final Mini Challenge race of the year at Snetterton.

Jason was able to assist Oli to win the 2009 Mini Challenge S class championship and the experience he gained running with another team will prove hugely useful in 2010.

For the 2010 season Jasons options are the Mini Challenge or The Trofeo Abarth 500 GB Championship with the final decision being based on the budget available.

Jasons aim is to race at BTCC level and with his pedigree it's a realistic aim.
